IDC RJ45 Cat. 6 IP20 field plug for industrial Ethernet
Fast, simple field configuration for gigabit Ethernet without tools
Pforzheim, 21st April 2008 - The IDC RJ45 field plug acc. to ISO/IEC 60603-7-5
with Cat. 6 certification in protection class IP20 by Provertha Connectors, Cables & Solutions GmbH is tailored to modern, future-oriented industrial Ethernet applications. It supports a data transfer rate of up to 10 gigabits/sec.

Its main feature is very quick, simple configuration of industrial Ethernet cables in the field without special tools. This is made possible by the special design of the 8-pin IDC RJ 45 field plug, and by the innovative insulation displacement connection (IDC) design of the contacts for the termination of the single wires. To simplify correct allocation of the coloured wires of the Ethernet patch or installation cable, the connector is provided with colour coding as defined in EIA/ TIA A/B.
The special design of the shield ensures 360° shielding of the RJ45 IDC plug and full-metal housing in die-cast zinc guarantee interference-free data transfer in industrial Ethernet applications.
Individual stranded wires with wire cross-sections of AWG 22/7 - AWG 26/7 and with conductor diameters of 0.48 – 0.76 mm can be terminated, as well solid wire versions with wire cross-sections of AWG 22 - AWG24 and conductor diameters of 0.4 – 0.64 mm. The maximum core diameter is 1.6 mm. Industrial Ethernet cables with a diameter of 5.5 mm or 8.5 mm can be harnessed.
Secure, simple strain relief for the cable is achieved by using a plastic strain-relief element that is snapped into place after terminating the Ethernet cable. This is available in several colours, and can thus be used for colour coding in patch panels.
The dimensions and the number of mating cycles, at > 750, are as defined in ISO/IEC 60603-7. The contact elements are made of a CuSn alloy, with 0.75 µm of Au over 2 µm of Ni. The contact body and the strain-relief and locking elements are made of high-quality thermoplastics.
